     One of the first decisions to be made is choosing the venue(s) for the ceremony and the reception. Will they both be held in the same place, or in different locations? To a certain extent, this might be dictated by circumstances: if the ceremony is to be a religious one, perhaps the church or temple will not be large enough to accommodate the reception. It is certainly easier, and most likely less expensive, to hold both in the same place. If that is your preference, make sure that the caterer and other professional services you engage can do their jobs in the space available.

    Popular venues can be booked many months in advance, especially over holiday weekends, so keep in mind that you might have to be flexible as to either the location or the date.
